The Hopkins lacrosse team had a very quick turnaround between their first game against Navy and their second contest against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Retrievers.
Senior team captain Jared Forman earned his second consecutive Centennial Conference title in the 174-pound match for the Blue Jays. With three key team members unable to participate in the tournament, Hopkins finished seventh overall in the Centennial Conference Championships, tallying a team total of 27 points.
This past Saturday, the Hopkins men’s basketball traveled to face off against Centennial Conference rival and the 21st ranked Swarthmore College Garnet at the Swarthmore College Tarble Pavilion. Despite the Jays’ strong start, the Garnet was able to pull away with a 70-48 victory, bettering their record to 19-4 on the season and 13-3 in Conference. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays fell to a still solid 11-5 in the Centennial.
Two years ago, junior midfielder Joel Tinney electrified Homewood Field with a standout performance in his rookie year as a Blue Jay, tallying 28 goals. He formed a young core with classmates Shack Stanwick and Patrick Fraser to complement now-graduated veterans such as Holden Cattoni, Ryan Brown and Wells Stanwick in one of the most dangerous attacks in D-I lacrosse.
After cancelled flights and over a foot of snow, the Hopkins Blue Jays were undeterred by the Boston weather as they put together perhaps one of their best team performances on the track.
The Hopkins men’s basketball team faced off at home on Wednesday, Feb 1 against the Gettysburg College Bullets. Hopkins came into the home game riding a six-game winning streak and tied for first among Centennial Conference teams.
The grapplers of the Hopkins wrestling team were unable to claim victory in their dual meet this past weekend which pitted the Blue Jays against Centennial Conference foes Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT) and Washington and Lee University (W&L) in Lexington, Va.
Let me just start out by saying this: The collection of championships played over the last 12 months is the greatest I have ever seen. The bar was set from the start with the NCAA College Basketball Championships and the Villanova Wildcats’ buzzer-beater victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in April. In the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ epic comeback against the Golden State Warriors followed in June.
Last week, the Hopkins women’s basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit at the end of the first half to seal the victory against the Gettysburg College Bullets in overtime. The final score of the game was 84-83.
The Hopkins men’s track and field team saw yet another weekend of Conference-leading performances and personal bests. The Blue Jays arrived in Collegeville, Pa. this past Sunday to compete in the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College.
This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s and women’s track and field teams smashed records and posted nation-leading performances at the George Mason Patriot Games. The team traveled to Fairfax, Va. for the two days of competition that began on Friday, Jan. 27.
Despite a relentless second half comeback, the Hopkins women’s basketball team fell 11 points short to the Ursinus College Bears, losing 51-40.
Following a freshman year with very little action on the court, sophomore guard Michael Gardner is shining in his second season at Homewood.
