The Hopkins men’s baseball team looked to continue their scorching start to the season after a fresh a pair of victories over number one ranked Cortland State and number two ranked Keystone College. The 5-1 Jays entered their matchup against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks with a lot of confidence, but ultimately fell short in a pitcher’s duel at Stromberg Stadium.
Competing against the best athletes from across the nation, senior Andrew Bartnett and sophomore Felicia Koerner of the Hopkins track & field team managed to bring home the hardware. Not only did the two earn All-American honors, which is awarded to the top seven finishers in each event, but Koerner and Barnett both finished among the top three athletes in the nation in their respective events.
A strong offensive start and a lockdown performance by the Jays gave the #19 ranked Hopkins women’s lacrosse team their seventh win of the season as they took down the Hofstra University Pride this past Saturday in Hempstead, New York.
Following a tremendous effort at last weekend’s MACFA and NIWFA Championships, the men’s and women’s fencing teams headed to Easton, Pa. on March 11 for the 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.

This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s and women’s fencing teams both brought home a collection of hardware. On Saturday, the women competed in the 89th National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championship. The men would wait until Sunday to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Championship.
After three straight wins to open the season, the 18th-ranked Hopkins women’s lacrosse team suffered a setback against the 10th-ranked University of Pennsylvania Quakers, falling 10-7 in the home opener.
This past weekend, the Jays travelled to Chapel Hill to take on the defending NCAA champions, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, in an early season matchup between two top-five teams. The Jays came into the contest fresh off a thrilling overtime victory against their Charles Street rivals, the Loyola Greyhounds, looking to move to 4-0 on the season.
This past weekend at the Track & Field Conference Championships, the Hopkins men clinched their fifth straight Centennial Conference crown. With six individual champions and an 81.5-point margin of victory over runner-up, Haverford College, the Jays dominated the competition at the University of Pennsylvania.
After four days of spring training games, there are only two undefeated teams remaining: The Los Angeles Angels and the Cleveland Indians. Does this mean these are the two best teams in baseball? Probably not. But fans have to dream, right?
