Last week was a momentous event in one of the biggest criminal cases of the past decade. Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Maggie Nichols represented themselves and hundreds of unnamed athletes before the Senate Judiciary Committee seeking accountability from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Hopkins volleyball hosted the Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament this past weekend, playing three teams and winning every match. Two of the matches were as usual for the Jays, winning in straight sets against Muskingum University and Birmingham-Southern College. However, against Virginia Wesleyan University they went to five sets, and the last set, which is normally played to 15, was played until 23 because of an enormous amount of deuces.
Women’s soccer continued their undefeated record at an away game against the Catholic University of America Cardinals last weekend. So far this season, no signs of rust seem to show for the Jays despite not having played in any official games last year.
The Hopkins football team has been off to a hot start, going 2-0 over their first two games. On Saturday, Sept. 11 the team played their first home game, facing off against the Ursinus College Bears. The team won handily by a score of 49-21, capitalizing off of a 35-point second quarter. This tied the Hopkins record for most points scored in a quarter.
Every year, college athletic programs in the NCAA make the decision to switch in and out of various conferences. This is normal; level of competition, TV contracts, program goals and many more things can change from year to year…
The Hopkins football team made their season debut with a road game against the Stevenson University Mustangs this past weekend. The Jays’ last game before this one came nearly two years ago, when they played the Mustangs in the Centennial and Middle Atlantic Conference Bowl and won 51-28.
Women’s field hockey faced off against Shenandoah University, Bridgewater College and the University of Lynchburg in their first three games of the season. It had been over 600 days since Hopkins played a field hockey game, but there was no sign of rust from the team as they won all three games last week. Junior defender Anna Scott scored or assisted in all games, propelling Hopkins to 4-1, 6-0 and 2-1 victories.

Hopkins entered the game ranked 15th in the nation and continued their winning streak, extending it to three games. Graduate student attackman Maggie Schneidereith scored a career-high seven goals and nine points to lead Hopkins to a 20-13 victory.
The Hopkins men and women's swim teams traveled to Gettysburg, Pa. to swim against the Gettysburg College Bullets on April 23.
Women’s and men’s track and field put up several record-breaking performances and personal bests on April 16 and 17. The teams sent some distance runners to Charlottesville, Va. to compete at the Virginia Challenge, while the rest of the team got to compete at their home track for the first time in two years at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational.
