What may be the weirdest trade deadline ever has come and gone. While less eventful than the average non-pandemic trade deadline, several consequential moves were made. The Washington Capitals shocked the hockey world when they traded promising young forward Jakub Vrána, along with first- and second-round picks and Richard Pánik, to the Detroit Red Wings for Anthony Mantha.

Julian Edelman, the best Patriots receiver over the last decade, retired on Monday, April 12. He has three Super Bowl rings and a Super Bowl Most Valuable Player trophy. He is probably one of the best seventh-round picks of all time, up there behind Bo Jackson and Shannon Sharpe. He deserves a lot of props. But he does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

The first Formula One (F1) race in the 2021 season took place in Bahrain on March 28. Even though the grandstands were empty, the new F1 cars’ engines revving reverberated through the racecourse and could be heard for miles. The numerous 2021 F1 regulation changes did little to change the race’s result: The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished first, followed by Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.

Monday, April 12: the NHL trade deadline. The day where contending teams acquire “rentals” from non-playoff teams on expiring contracts and a few players with terms left on their contracts are traded. Draft picks and prospects are traded, contending teams prepare for the stretch run and through a few head-scratching trades, general managers occasionally unknowingly submit an implicit letter of resignation. Let’s take a look at the market and craft a preview of how likely players are to be moved, where they might end up and what future assets might be exchanged.

Over the course of a normal five-month season, NFL players are expected to travel the country, leave their friends and family and play 16 grueling games in all sorts of inclement weather with only one week to rest. With immense amounts of pressure, most contracts being not fully guaranteed and the risks of a potential season-ending injury every day, the life of an NFL player is tough enough.

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, I want to celebrate the many sportswomen who fearlessly break down barriers for women and girls around the world. The striking disparities at the NCAA Division-I Basketball Tournament this past weekend are a painful yet unsurprising reminder of the ongoing fight against gender inequality in all levels of athletic competition.

It is the job of the media to stir up controversy, make assumptions or pressure athletes for answers about their future plans, but at least in the case of Tiger Woods — they should stop.

The NBA is the only major sport to have a notable player as its logo. Jerry West is currently the man on every stadium, every jersey, every T-shirt and every press release made by the NBA. It is an amazingly unique position to be in as a former player, and it is also a symbol of how the NBA is incredibly player-centered.

The first leg of the 2021 Champions League was historic for many reasons. For the first time in history, seven out of the eight matches resulted in losses for the home teams. The only team that managed to win at home was Porto, who scored once at the beginning of each half before allowing Juventus to squeeze in a late goal in the 82nd minute.
