One of the main reasons why I wanted to go on this mountain biking trip was due to my nagging desire to leave campus and get away from the library and the never-ending cycle of homework. The trip was going to give me a change of pace, a change of scenery, and a chance to do something outside of the norm. This was not the first time I had wanted to go on one of the trips hosted by the Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club (JHOC), but this desire is shared by many other students, so this was my first opportunity before the winter and the final stretch of the semester. You can imagine my joy when I found out I was moved onto the roster and I was actually going to go mountain biking!
There is something about the rush of adrenaline, the chasing of the rising anxiety, that entices many. Upon discovery, it can be a bit strange, but not knowing what the future holds or what may be hiding in the dark corner of an empty room is exciting. It was this allure for the feeling of adrenaline — the pounding of the heart and blood that flows to your fingertips — that drew me to The Nevermore Haunt. Additionally, I needed a release from the feeling of dread that washed over me from the chemistry test I’d had the previous day.
Festivities don’t end with Halloween! Check out fun events around Baltimore as the city gets ready to welcome Thanksgiving.
I ran off to Boston for Fall Break. 99.9% of the reason was to visit my girlfriend, but a part of me wanted to analyze what gives Boston its reputation as the “best college town” and if it is actually better than the city that I’ve enjoyed so much in the past two years.
When I stepped up to the starting line of the Baltimore Marathon, I wasn’t thinking about much. The crowd buzzed around me with excitement and the National Anthem boomed from the large speakers up front. I knew roughly what pace I was supposed to run out at, and that was about it.
Fall break may be over, but fun events around the city don’t stop! Enjoy the fall season and all the festivities leading up to Halloween!
As an international student, I had always heard about the hype around Trader Joe’s, but only recently have I had the opportunity to dive in. This year, I switched my weekly shopping location from the Giant Food on W 41st Street to the Trader Joe’s on Kenilworth Drive in Towson. Though I do have to pay for a rideshare service, as it’s outside of the limits of the Blue Jay Shuttle, my total bill is still much lower than what I used to pay at Giant Food. More importantly, the quality of food is better, and the options are so much more exciting, too.
Headlining this weekend is the Baltimore Running Festival, but if that’s not for you, keep reading for all the other exciting things happening around the city!
It’s happened to all of us: You wake up ready to start your day, you have some breakfast, you put on a cute outfit and when you step outside, you feel raindrops on your head and realize you forgot to check your weather app. Baltimore skies are unpredictable and moody, and it’s not uncommon to find our plans suddenly canceled due to inclement weather and our days — for once — free. When the weather is already gloomy, no one wants to make their hearts even heavier by trudging through puddles to get to Brody, but how else to pass the time? If you’re in search of something to squash your boredom on a rainy day, look no further!
This weekend, Charm City is bustling with festivals spanning music, culture and even Halloweeen. Make sure to check some of them out!

Saturday mornings are usually a great occasion to sleep in. After all, you have just survived another week of school and were probably out on Friday night far past your usual bedtime. If you somehow manage to wake up before 12 o’clock, you should visit the Waverly Farmers Market.
It’s another event-full weekend in Baltimore! Take advantage of the last weekend of the Baltimore Restaurant Week and check out the Artscape festival right on our doorsteps!
How do you make an empty room feel like home?
The change of seasons always comes with a lot of festivities. Celebrate the end of summer and the coming of fall with a weekend full of fun events!
Writing about running around the city never gets old. This newest edition is about our beloved Charles Street. Yes, the one that many of you can see out of your dorms and apartments. The beautiful Charles Street 12 is a 12-mile road race that runs from the Trader Joe’s in Towson down to the Under Armour headquarters in Federal Hill.
School is starting to get real! Take a break this weekend with fun events happening around the city, especially with the NFL kicking off this Thursday.
Search up Hopkins on any map and it will take you to the grassy knoll in front of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library that we Blue Jays lovingly call the Beach. On a sunny day, troves of students will flock there for picnics, a game of frisbee or some quiet reading. Nearby is the Daily Grind of Brody Learning Commons where students can purchase food and refreshments. And, if you want something more substantial, St. Paul Street has a plethora of restaurants for those sick of dining hall fare.
