It’s happened to all of us: You wake up ready to start your day, you have some breakfast, you put on a cute outfit and when you step outside, you feel raindrops on your head and realize you forgot to check your weather app. Baltimore skies are unpredictable and moody, and it’s not uncommon to find our plans suddenly canceled due to inclement weather and our days — for once — free. When the weather is already gloomy, no one wants to make their hearts even heavier by trudging through puddles to get to Brody, but how else to pass the time? If you’re in search of something to squash your boredom on a rainy day, look no further!

Saturday mornings are usually a great occasion to sleep in. After all, you have just survived another week of school and were probably out on Friday night far past your usual bedtime. If you somehow manage to wake up before 12 o’clock, you should visit the Waverly Farmers Market.

Writing about running around the city never gets old. This newest edition is about our beloved Charles Street. Yes, the one that many of you can see out of your dorms and apartments. The beautiful Charles Street 12 is a 12-mile road race that runs from the Trader Joe’s in Towson down to the Under Armour headquarters in Federal Hill.

Search up Hopkins on any map and it will take you to the grassy knoll in front of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library that we Blue Jays lovingly call the Beach. On a sunny day, troves of students will flock there for picnics, a game of frisbee or some quiet reading. Nearby is the Daily Grind of Brody Learning Commons where students can purchase food and refreshments. And, if you want something more substantial, St. Paul Street has a plethora of restaurants for those sick of dining hall fare.

We made it, Blue Jays! Classes have ended, and summer is just around the corner. For some of us, that means leaving Baltimore for a few months. For others, though, it means even more leisure time in this lovely city! If you’re sticking around over the next few months, check out these events in Baltimore.

While almost nothing in the world of journalism can be certain, one key element of print nights at The News-Letter is delivery pizza. Putting out a print paper is a labor of love and one that requires endurance. Food is fuel, so we always make sure to take a break in the evening — in between editing articles and laying out pages — to enjoy a hot slice of pizza, with the leftovers reserved for stress-eating after midnight.

It’s the last weekend before the end of classes! Enjoy some time in the warm weather with your friends this weekend.

Spring has finally arrived in Baltimore! Tulips are blooming, birds chirp all day and bees swarm around the quad (which isn’t always my favorite thing). The sun sets later, and people can finally enjoy the sunset instead of missing it when they walk out of Brody at 5 p.m. and head to dinner. Everyone has tucked away their winter jackets and put their sandals on, presenting their “dawgs” proudly to the world! While many aspects of spring bring me joy, one of my favorites is finally being able to study outside without needing to wear four layers and fearing that my fingers will be frostbitten.

Are you and your friends tired of eating on St. Paul Street for dinner? Me, too! Therefore, as everyone’s favorite Ethiopian on campus, it is my duty to introduce you to Ethiopian cuisine in Baltimore.

It’s Alumni Weekend at Hopkins! If you’re on campus, check out these events happening over the course of the weekend. If you want to get off campus a bit, though, explore these events happening around Baltimore!

The crisp air, the petrichor. Nothing feels quite as refreshing as rain after a hot, muggy day, which is simply a positive way to say I got caught in a heavy downpour on a Thursday afternoon and was cold and wet while on my hunt for dim sum in Chinatown.
