Well, there was finally a resolution to the Jimmy Butler saga, and I don’t think that it was the resolution that anyone expected. Or wanted, for that matter. I believe from a purely entertainment standpoint, we would have loved to continue to hear stories about Butler mentally breaking Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns or how the Timberwolves rejected another tantalizing trade offer.
One of the best wide receivers in the NFL only a few years ago, Dez Bryant had been a free agent for the entirety of the season until Nov. 7 when he agreed to a single-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. The three-time Pro Bowl star was released by the Dallas Cowboys last year, the team he had been playing for since 2010.
The Hopkins field hockey team experienced great success throughout the regular season and the Centennial Conference Tournament. Thus far, the NCAA Tournament has been much of the same. The team began its quest to win a National Championship this past weekend in Grantham, Pa.
This past weekend, the Hopkins volleyball team swept their way through the Centennial Conference Tournament. On Saturday, Hopkins defeated the Swarthmore Garnet in the semifinals and, on Sunday, they beat the McDaniel Green Terror, taking home the school’s third consecutive Conference Championship. The Jays completely dominated the competition, winning each set by an average of almost 10 points.
This past weekend, the women’s swim team traveled across town to nearby Loyola University to compete in the annual Thomas Murphy Invitational. Four schools arrived at the Mangione Pool, including West Chester University, Drexel Univeristy, Loyola University and our very own Blue Jays.

Some people are trying to find out which colleges are going to bust their brackets in March. Others want to know which players will become top NBA prospects. Most fans are looking to see how their alma mater is going to perform. As always, this year will hold countless buzzer beaters, blowouts and upsets.
This weekend, the women’s soccer team hosted the Centennial Conference playoffs, where the top five regular season teams faced off in a single elimination tournament to determine who would win the Conference and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
The Hopkins football team’s regular season is quickly winding down, and the Blue Jays are still vying for a Centennial Conference Championship and a postseason bid. This past Saturday, they hit the road for the final time this regular season to take on the Juniata College Eagles.

On Monday, the Cleveland Browns fired head coach Hue Jackson. The Browns were 2-5-1 this season, which is not good by any standards, unless you are the Browns in which case those two wins double your previous win total from Jackson’s first two seasons combined.
On Saturday, the Blue Jay football team hosted the Muhlenberg College Mules in quite possibly the most important game on the Centennial Conference schedule this season. With a win, the undefeated Mules would be in prime position to end Hopkins’ eight-year reign atop the Conference. Spoiler alert: that didn’t happen.
Hopkins was bested by both the Fordham University Rams and the Wagner College Seahawks this past Saturday in Bronx, N. Y. and Staten Island, N.Y., respectively. The scores were 13-8 and 17-7.

The Jays improved their record to 6-2 in the Conference and 12-3-1 overall, in a clean 3-0 victory against the Bears, who have yet to tally a win on the season.
The newest craze in baseball is “the opener” where a pitcher who is normally a reliever starts the game and pitches the first one or two innings for a team before they bring in their starting pitcher who throws the length of a normal starter.
The women’s soccer team had their Senior Day game Saturday against the Ursinus College Bears and asserted their dominance for the duration to win 5-1. The last regular season Saturday home game gave the team a chance to honor their six seniors in a ceremony before the game.
