On the third day of the annual Hoptoberfest, “Show Day,” eleven student groups performed, including seven a capella groups. Hoptoberfest is run by the Hopkins Student Organization for Programming (HOP).
If you ask Hopkins students about what is going on between Israel and Hamas, a common answer you’ll receive is, “It’s complicated.” What’s weird is that this refrain is all that so many people have to say, and that doesn’t quite sit right with me.

The Milton S. Eisenhower (MSE) Symposium welcomed John Sullivan on Wednesday, Oct. 11, as the first guest of the ”Navigating Tomorrow” 2023 speakers series. Sullivan served as the U.S. ambassador to Russia from 2019 to 2022. In response to heightening conflicts in the Middle East, the Office of Interdisciplinary Initiatives hosted a Johns Hopkins Briefing on developments in Gaza on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The briefing brought together Dean of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) James B. My grandma, my baa, is the strongest, most beautiful woman I know. She married young, didn’t finish school and immigrated from India with her six children. We jokingly called her a family man. She made time for her 14 grandchildren, spent her days calling each of us before and after school and would ask for updates on our well-being and our friends. She was, and continues to be, my dearest friend.
Juggling classes and exams in college while also maintaining a social life and good mental health can be challenging (I’m honestly exhausted thinking and writing about it). Because of this, JHU ¡Baila!, the University’s only Latin dance team, really stands out for how it embraces the importance of this balance. There’s something special about the excitement of a theater minutes before the lights go down. People are flipping through the programs or chatting with their friends, and theater group members are doing their last checks and preparations before showtime. You can never know for sure exactly what kind of show you’re going to be in for. For my part, I didn’t have any clue, beyond the names of the plays: Uncomfortable Spotlights, The Curse of Having a Big Heart, The Whip-Poor-Will and Angelus Mortis.

Hopkins Athletics was awarded the 2022-23 Learfield Directors' Cup for the first time in school history after scoring in 19 total sports, of which 14 teams boasted top-10 finishes. Milton S. Eisenhower (MSE) Library is slated for a complete renovation beginning in summer 2024. As the University’s principal research library since 1964, MSE has only had minor updates over the years. The MSE Modernization Project, which will encompass the approximately 182,000-square-foot library, will have an estimated cost of $100 million and is expected to take two and a half years.
As an international student, I had always heard about the hype around Trader Joe’s, but only recently have I had the opportunity to dive in. This year, I switched my weekly shopping location from the Giant Food on W 41st Street to the Trader Joe’s on Kenilworth Drive in Towson. Though I do have to pay for a rideshare service, as it’s outside of the limits of the Blue Jay Shuttle, my total bill is still much lower than what I used to pay at Giant Food. More importantly, the quality of food is better, and the options are so much more exciting, too.
