Gilman Hall is the first building on the Homewood Campus to achieve a LEED Silver rating. Many classrooms are desinged to use natural light.

The seal is still covered, but it will be fully visible once everything else is complete. Legend has it that if prospective applicants to Hopkins step on the seal they will be rejected. If current students step on it, they won't graduate.

During the renovation process, parts of the building that had historical significance, such as these memorial markers, were covered for protection. Because of this, Gilman Hall maintains a link to its past in several places.
