Hi everyone, and welcome back to Hopkins Sports in Review! As usual, we’ll be bringing you news from several of our in-season sports, as well as some upcoming competitions to be on the lookout for.
Men’s Lacrosse: L (14-10)
Hopkins hosted the Ohio State University men’s lacrosse team on alumni weekend for this spring’s homecoming game, in a 14-10 loss. Men’s Lacrosse is now 6-5 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten, ahead of the final two matches of the conference, where they will face Penn State University and the University of Maryland (UMD), respectively.
The Buckeyes opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a goal by senior Jack McKenna, in what proved to be an animated first quarter that ultimately ended with a 4-2 advantage for the visiting team. In the second quarter, the visitors were able to widen their advantage with a four-goal drive, leading to an 8-3 score at half-time. Our athletes rallied in the third quarter, with a five-goal effort that saw the gap close to 10-8. Nevertheless, a strong final press by Ohio State saw the score climb to 14-10, giving the Buckeyes their 11th straight win of the season.
Men’s Track and Field: Dalton Ebanks Invitational
Our men’s track team travelled to Fairfax, Va. in order to compete at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, which was hosted by George Mason University. Over two days of competition, our athletes competed across a variety of events and set numerous program records.
Sophomores Alex Colletti, Spencer Ye and Carter Chui, as well as junior Joshua Lee, secured the fourth-fastest 4x100m relay time in the track and field program’s history. On Saturday, Colletti also picked up a few other Top 10 finishes — in the 200 meter event on Friday, he posted a time of 21.41, securing a first-place finish. The next day, in the Men’s 100 meters, he completed the event in 10.50 seconds, which led to a fifth-place finish. Moreover, in the Men’s 4x400 meters relay, Colletti, Lee, junior Samson Dessalines and graduate student Michael Kruppa picked up a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:19.27.
Additionally, junior Connor Oiler also set a program record by setting the 10th fastest time in program history in the men’s 1500 meters, with a personal best time of 3:55.52. Overall, our athletes had an incredible weekend, representing the best of what Hopkins has to offer!
