Welcome, Hopkins faithful, to another week of Hopkins Sports in Review! As always, we’re covering all the most pressing updates from the world of Hopkins athletics. It was a busy week for Blue Jay Track and Field, and Women’s Lacrosse picked up two big wins before their rivalry week game against Maryland. Here’s the latest scoop on Hopkins athletics:
Women’s Lacrosse: W (16-6), L (2-13), W (12-11)
Women’s Lacrosse opened their week with a 16-6 thrashing of Ohio State before getting a taste of their own medicine with a 2-13 loss at Michigan. But the game of the week was the overtime thriller against Penn State.
The Blue Jays never led in the contest until the game-winning goal in overtime. Hopkins went into the half with a 6-4 deficit and found themselves in a three-goal hole, 10-7, early in the fourth quarter. However, the comeback was on with twelve minutes left on the clock when the Blue Jays exploded for three goals in just two minutes. It was Taylor Hoss, Samantha DiCarlo, and Charlotte Smith in quick succession to tie the game midway through the 4th quarter.
After trading goals at the end of regulation, the game was pushed into overtime, where sophomore midfielder Lacey Downey ended the contest with a game-winning goal to bring the final score to 12-11.
Men’s Track and Field
The Hopkins Men’s track and field team was busy on Friday, sending a team to the River Hawk Multi and the Mid-Atlantic Track & Field JUCO Invitational.
At the River Hawk Multi, sophomore Sebastian Tangelson finished third overall in the decathlon with the seventh highest score in school history at 6,002 points, including an overall first place finish in the 1500m. Senior Peter Lim also excelled during the meet, finishing first place in the pole vault and second in the javelin.
At the Mid-Atlantic Track & Field JUCO Invitational, the Blue Jays had a similarly strong showing with juniors Ryan Braga and Leo Anderson capturing first and second place, respectively, in the hammer throw. For the pole vault, freshman Seth Wyzykowski finished first and junior Aiden Rothstein finished second, capping off a successful weekend for the Blue Jays.
Women’s Track and Field
It was a similarly busy week for Women’s Track and Field, who had a packed weekend, splitting their squad across three meets.
At the River Hawk Multi, Claudia Ouimet led the way with a second-place heptathlon finish, scoring the sixth-highest points in program history. Jaclyn Donoho and Abigail Lovelace also cracked the top 10 with personal-best performances.
At the Mid-Atlantic Track & Field JUCO Invitational, Hopkins swept the hammer throw behind a record-setting toss from junior Erika Ezumba. Junior Phoebe Williams and Freshman Kellen Levers then followed to complete the podium. Williams also won the javelin, with senior Cassidy Brown in second.
Finally, at the Duke Invitational, junior Mirra Klimov and sophomore Ellie Lewis finished 35th and 66th, respectively, in a very competitive 100m field.
