By MYRA SAEED | March 8, 2025

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Student Government Association (SGA) convened to receive updates from Student Health and Well-being, Admissions, and Information Technology Services. They also passed the Senior Memorabilia Bill, Copa América Bill, and the Junior Formal cooperative with HopTHON bill.

The session opened with a presentation from Student Health and Well-Being, featuring Kevin Shollenberger, vice provost; Dr. Roanna Kessler, chief medical director; Jennifer Howes, chief mental health director;  and Jacki Stone, executive director. They were also joined by Cathie Axe, executive director of Student Disability Services.

The representatives discussed a new unified phone number for primary care and mental health services and announced the success of web-based appointment scheduling. They also promoted new services, such as occupational therapy, mental assessment testing and well-being coaching, and shared plans to expand access to wellness vending machines across campus.

Next, the Admissions team, featuring Ellen Chow, dean of undergraduate admissions; Calvin Wise, deputy dean of admissions; and Alexis Glenn, senior assistant director for on-campus recruitment, focused on their high-school student recruitment efforts. They outlined efforts to expand the Blue Key Society, shared upcoming recruitment events and Blue Jay Days and promoted the Blue Jay Connection, a program in which current students visit their high schools to share their Hopkins experience. They also highlighted the Alumni Council’s role in off-campus outreach.

A presentation from the Information Technology (IT) Services followed, featuring Graham Allen, IT director for University Student Services and Scott Spencer, director of IT at the Office of the Registrar. They discussed improvements to campus technology — including the installation of additional wireless access points to accommodate device density, upgrades to monitors and workstations in the Krieger Computer Lab, and the availability of printers in residence halls. They also stated they will explore potential enhancements to the Student Information System based on student feedback.

Finally, President of the Senate Nasreen Naqvi reintroduced the Senior Memorabilia Bill and the Copa América Funding Bill, while Chair of Programming Tim Huang introduced a bill to fund the Junior Formal in partnership with HopTHON. All three bills passed unanimously.
