The 112th SGA welcomes freshman senators and discussed a proposal to administration addressing campus construction disruptions.

The 112th Student Government Association (SGA) convened on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for its weekly meeting. Senate President Nasreen Naqvi congratulated the newly confirmed freshman senators who introduced themselves before being sworn in. The committee chairs also introduced themselves to the new members. The meeting moved forward with the election for Vice President of the senate. Srigouri Oruganty — current 2026 Class Senator — was elected to the position.

Chair of Programming Tim Huang then promoted JayGame, an event inspired by the TV show Squid Game, and asked for volunteers to help organize the team-based elimination event, including opportunities for redemption. In the first reading, Nayshawn Ferebee — a Senator and the Chair for the Black Caucus — presented the Trunk-or-Treat tabling collaboration bill, requesting $120 for a Halloween-themed tabling event.

For the second reading, SGA President Stone Meng discussed the Campus Construction Resolution, highlighting issues related to the fencing around the Milton S. Eisenhower Library. Meng’s proposed resolution calls for a 5% tuition reduction and further changes to address concerns like the loss of walking paths, extended distances to study spaces, diminished visual aesthetic of campus and insufficient study areas.

During a moderated caucus, proposed solutions included reopening pathways and extending free or subsidized transportation services. Questions were raised about expanding on-campus storage options, and Whiting School of Engineering Senator Moses Frumkin suggested reordering the propositions to prioritize the issues. Some members disagreed on the order of the problems listed.

The letter will also be sent out to the student body. “This is also a message to the student body that the SGA acknowledges the issues students face and is taking action,” Meng said.
