The Student Government Association (SGA) held its weekly general body meeting on March 28 to discuss approving the Committee on Student Elections (CSE) constitution. The second readings for the Student Activities Commission guidelines, Sex Week Funding Bill and the Earth Fest Funding Bill were also presented.
Committee on Student Elections constitution
CSE Chair Nubaira Milki presented the first reading of CSE’s constitution for the upcoming school year. She highlighted that most of the changes in the constitution reflect the new changes in the structure of SGA.
- “The only other thing we changed from our end was that we took out the part where we had to approve individual social media posts. We thought that made it kind of faster for the campaign... since there are so many candidates,” Milki said.
- Sophomore Class Senator Jackson Morris questioned why this was not presented earlier, since these amendments to CSE’s constitution needed to be added before the electoral cycle.
- Milki responded that they did not have the exact details until much later in the school year. “We didn’t get finalized how many people are running and exactly what positions; we received that from [Senior Director of Leadership Engagement & Experiential Development Calvin Smith] in February,” she said.
Student Activities Commission guidelines
Treasurer Kya Nicholson presented the second reading of the governing guidelines for the Student Activities Commission.
- The guidelines passed unanimously.
Sex Week Funding Bill
Junior Class Senator Rachel Huang presented the Sex Week Funding Bill. The Sexual Assault Resource Unit requested funding to pay the remaining cost for their guest speaker.
- The bill passed unanimously.
Earth Fest Funding Bill
In collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, Earth Fest is a celebration of sustainability for Earth Day. Huang presented the Earth Fest Funding Bill, which requests $178.85 in prizes that would be given to winners of Earth Day trivia.
- The bill passed unanimously.
