Maddy:
“We were roommates last semester, so we’re doing it again.”
Caitlyn:
“We were in our dorm together a lot. She’s great, but we got a little tired of our room. We went on a lot of walks, trying to get out. We explored Inner Harbor a bit, went to the Walters Art Museum. We went to D.C. once. We went right after [cherry blossom season]; we just missed it.”
Maddy:
“We got some really good pizza, walked almost two miles for ice cream.”
Caitlyn:
“We tried to get IHOP once — it was really bad. I love IHOP at home but not here as much. I don’t recommend it, but they have it. I love breakfast food; I’m committed. Chocolate chip pancakes can’t be beat.”
Maddy:
“I did Orgo over the summer. I was committed. I was like, ‘I gotta finish this.”
Caitlyn:
“I took Intermediate Programming over the summer, and I went on a couple trips. I went to Oregon to visit some family I have back there. We drove to Florida — me and my mom went for a little mother-daughter trip.”
“I draw, and I paint. I do a lot of nature scenes and stuff.”
Maddy:
“I play tennis. I picked it up in high school and kind of continued that. Here, I wasn’t ready for a tennis commitment; in high school I was on my tennis team.”
“I’m a twin. She goes to UCSD [the University of California San Diego], so she’s on the coast, and I’m on the other coast.”
Caitlyn:
“Have you guys seen the movie Dolphin Tale? I’ve met Winter the dolphin. It’s in Florida, and my mom is obsessed with Disney. We were going on a Disney trip, and it was my birthday, so she decided we would go to the Clearwater Aquarium nearby. She bought a ticket so I could see Winter, and I got to go out and hold my hand out while the dolphin swam by.”
“This girl walks in on me studying to hard rock, and I walk into her room and it’s classical music playing, relaxing.”
Maddy:
“She calls it put-me-to-sleep music. I took piano lessons and just never picked it up.”
Caitlyn:
“I have a ukelele, but I never play it.”
Maddy:
“We’ve been watching a lot of movies. She’s trying to get me caught up.”
Caitlyn:
“I’ll quote a movie, and she’ll be like ‘What are you saying?’ and I’m like ‘You haven’t seen that?’ We just watched Cruella, but of course Disney movies. [About Sing] It’s adorable. I made this one watch it, and she actually loved it.”
Maddy:
“I won’t lie; it wasn’t bad.”
Caitlyn:
“Should we tell them about Frederick? Okay, so you know how the Mattin Center was closing so they gave away a bunch of free art? So I got this painting of this man. This semester, we have this wall in the corner of our dorm, so I just taped Frederick in the dark corner. We started taking Polaroids of all our friends, so now they’re just surrounding Frederick.”
Maddy:
“It’s just a portrait, an oil painting someone did of this guy, and it’s super good, but it’s creepy. So we were like, ‘We’re gonna make this a little less mysterious, and we’re gonna surround it with Polaroids of people that we’re close to or that come in our room.’ And we tell them, ‘Pose with a stuffed animal, and you’ll go on the wall with Frederick.’”
