Penn Relays see sterling individual performances

The Hopkins men’s track and field team competed in the 121st Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on Thursday and Friday last week. On Thursday, the Blue Jays competed in the steeplechase and the 5000 meter run.

On Friday, they competed in the pole vault, 4x400 meter relay, and the high jump.

On Thursday, senior Austin Stecklair competed for the Blue Jays in the 3000 meter steeplechase. He was one of only three D-III competitors and placed 17th with a time of 9:46.07. Senior Andrew Ceruzzi ran a 15:00.01 time in the 5000 meter run, his second best time in the season. On Friday night, sophomore Andrew Bartnett continued his phenomenal pole vaulting season with a 4.80 meter mark in the pole vault.

He was second among non-D-I athlets and came in first among D-III athletes. In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of sophomore Daniel Camous, freshman Matt Fischetti, junior Trevor Holmgren and senior Andrew Carey finished with a noteworthy time of 3:23.66. It was the season-best finish for a Hopkins 4x400 team.

Senior Ryan Walsh cleared a 1.96 meter high jump.

The Jays will return to action this weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships in Allentown, Pa. this coming weekend.
