The 11th annual Baltimore marathon snaked through the city's streets Saturday, one of several races of the Baltimore Running Festival.
With a starting point at Russell and Camden Streets, runners made their way through several neighborhoods, including the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Federal Hill, also grazing Charles Village in their path.
The Charles Village connection to the race did not end with location; many Hopkins students took part in either the marathon or other races associated with the Festival. Junior Anne Pugula was one such student. A self-described "serious runner," she had a positive experience with the marathon relay, although running the first leg of the race was a bit of a different experience for her than running for the heavily attended final legs would have been.
"The Baltimore race was kind of quiet . . . but it had a beautiful route," Pugula said. "It was really fun to be able to run with friends on a team and I would definitely do it again."
Pegula even passed zookeepers cheering outside of The Maryland Zoo with several animals.
"That was really cute to see," Pegula added. "One woman gave a penguin a high five."
