Hopkins In 300 Words: The Beach, Mar. 21, 4:15 p.m.

By KUNAL AJMERA | March 31, 2011

As I sit on The Beach, the weather teases me with the hopes of spring. Two shirtless boys play ball, almost oblivious to their surroundings. Bikini-clad girls lie on their back hoping to get a tan.

A cheerful group of people merrily exit the gate and pass by two somber looking, heavy backpack-wielding boys. Embracing the beautiful architecture surrounding it, the people enjoying it and untouched feeling of nature cradling it, the beach is an inspiring place to be.

A boy frantically tries to keep his kite in flight, while a group of girls giggle. A boy nestles under the shade of a tree deeply engrossed in what probably were assignments for the rest of the week. A girl smiles when her boyfriend surprises her with flowers. Standing in the middle of the lower part of the beach and looking through the glass windows of the MSEL, Gilman Hall is beautifully framed in the center. A loud shout by one of the boys playing lacrosse attracts everyone’s attention for a few seconds.

Construction workers in bright orange jackets appear from almost nowhere. The large crane comes to a halt. A group of three set up camp arranging their laptops and books. A boy with three colorful balls puts on a juggling show for his friend standing by. Dropping the balls once, he goes on to juggle perfectly prompting his friend to give him a pat of appreciation. The noise of a sports bike vrooming down the brick pathway drowns all the other noises. Almost instantly, everyone stands up to leave and starts walking towards the library or out from the gates. Raindrops start to descend, almost dampening their spirits. All hoping for another sunny day at the beach.
