The ins and outs of porn: Girls can play like the boys do - That's what she said

By Grace Gwendolyn | October 25, 2007

It's well-established that the Internet is for porn. It's also pretty well-established that the Internet is for both genders. It would seem that porn is just as much for girls as it is for boys.

There is no biological, psychological or social reason girls shouldn't be as lecherous as the opposite sex. Thankfully social stigmas are fading. Women are allowed to be promiscuous, masturbate if they so choose and even leave the kitchen. Clearly we're also allowed to watch and enjoy porn. There are some problems with the porn industry that make it less enticing for women - things that discourage women from watching certain genres - since it was, after all, designed for men.

Pin-up style porn has the most aesthetic value, followed by artistic photographs, then plain photographs and last by videos. It really seems like some aspects of the porn industry are doing a significant damage and disservice to women. Between the hardcore industry and all its video glory and the soft-core industry and its not-too-innocent pop-ups, women are exposed to various unsavory, potentially harmful and generally tasteless acts.

For one, hardcore porn does far too much to glorify the less proper aspects of a sexual union - not only is sodomy glorified as some sort of significant sign of submission, it's practically legitimatized as a fifth base, the pinnacle of all sexual acts. It's not. If that's what you and your consenting partner are into, that's fine. But in no way is it a safe, practical, hygienic or religiously permissible thing. I can't say whether it's pleasurable, but I'm pretty sure you can subsist on the safer types of intercourse. Regardless of the superficial characteristics, it's a fact that anal sex affords more opportunities for bacterial infections and the transmission of several STIs than vaginal intercourse.

One of the other major issues with porn, is the illusion that the blowjob is the ultimate show of affection and/or submission. As it happens, this is not the case. Oral sex is foreplay, by definition, and isn't so much a sign of submission as it is simple degradation. It's true that most girls don't mind it; some even enjoy it, but without the extensive quantity of videos on the Internet putting this slightly pointless act on a pedestal, there would be fewer requests and certainly lower expectations.

I've had enough of guys who sit around and complain about what was wrong with the last blowjob they got - you don't deserve one, we're not obligated to give one and if you don't like the way its done, it's likely because all the porn you watched in high school has desensitized you to the point where you expect a cinematic performance from everyone.

I don't want to start on the vulgar, despicable and vile activities that porn directors call "vision" and "imagination" and most psychologically sound people view as damn gross. You know what I'm referring to. Most recently we've seen the advent of 'Superman' and 'Spiderman' and many other disgusting acts. Really, who enjoys this stuff?

Sure, guys think it sounds like a "GREAT IDEA HAHAHA," but realistically, how much more does it get you off to completely and utterly degrade your partner? I understand revenge sex; I don't understand degenerate and filthy sex. And trust me, I was raised in a wretched little town; plenty of weird things occurred around me. Somehow I turned out like this: Compared to the hard core of hardcore porn, I'm a nun living in 18th century Massachusetts in a cabin where I fend off rapists and corn deliverymen with a stick, which I most certainly don't use to pleasure myself.

In any case, there's a difference between creative sex and porn that's trying too hard. Girls recognize this, because one is "I don't want to admit it, but that looks really intriguing" and the other is "WHAT IS OCCURRING?"

Guys don't seem to recognize this as much, since both types yield a reaction along the lines of "Hot damn, that girl got OWNED. I'd try that." No, you won't try that. Because you can't even imagine what that girl got paid. (That figure is between $100,000 and $3 million a year, for the average hardcore girl and Jenna Jameson, respectively.)

It's definitely acceptable for women to watch porn, but it seems that the porn industry has done us a rather large disservice. Glorifying things that are if not outrageous, just plain degrading don't advance the sexual liberation needed for a porn industry to continue to thrive.

Girls aren't as easily grossed out as they claim but if the cycle of vulgarity continues, realize that we'll get tired of your feeble attempts at being a pornstar. Girls don't think an angry dragon is witty. There are many, heterosexual and otherwise, who find Eva Henger truly very hot. Again, good night and good luck - and guys wearing nothing but socks is not cute, so don't do it.
