This Friday, as most of the Hopkins population already knows, Hopkins' only all-male a cappella group, the AllNighters, will bring their Fall Show to Bloomberg Auditorium at 8 p.m. Described on their Web site as "a showcase of debauchery, shiny vests and really kickass music," the show is also set to feature the Drexel University Treblemakers, Drexel's all-female a cappella group.
The AllNighters were founded in 1992 and are now one of Hopkins' most popular live performance groups. They have also, historically, been successful in competition, having won the ICCA Atlantic Regional Semifinal, though it remains to be seen if the group will be able to match their past success this year. So far this year, the AllNighters have traveled down to James Madison University this past October.
Many of the AllNighters' Hopkins fans are excited to hear their new material and to hear the voices of their new freshman members, Brendan Vandor, Matt Moura and Kenny Whitmer, who auditioned and were chosen this past September. To promote the show, the group posted a giant crescent moon on the double doors of Gilman Hall, featuring the phrase "got vests?" The phrase is a reference to the vests that all members wear at performances. For more information on Friday's and other AllNighters performances, visit http://www.allnighters.org.
One of Hopkins' all-female groups, the Sirens, is also having a concert this weekend. Their concert will take place on Saturday in the Bloomberg Auditorium at 8 p.m. The group is also featuring James Madison University's Exit 245 and the Univesity of Pennsylvania's Pennchants.
The Sirens have recently announced that they have started recording a third disc, to follow their first two releases, To Die For and There She Goes. Their fall 2006 set list includes "Over My Head" by the Fray and "Every time We Touch" by Cascada. Like the AllNighters, they welcomed new freshman members this fall, albeit twice as many.
